Attendees at a Special Town Meeting on Tuesday, March 19 will be asked to vote on whether to approve the sale of about 6,600 square feet of town-owned land to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. The state would pay about $70,000.

The meeting takes place at Town Hall at 6:00 pm.

Transfer of the land is needed for the state-funded improvement of the intersection of Route 57 and School Road, where northbound traffic will have a dedicated right turn lane onto School Road and, southbound, the road will be slightly widened. The traffic light system will also be upgraded.

The construction is designed to eliminate congestion at the intersection that builds up at the beginning and end of school days. The project is part of Phase 2 of Weston’s sidewalks plan. Construction is expected to begin this summer.

Voters at the Special Town Meeting will be asked to decide this question: “Shall the Town of Weston transfer Town-owned property located at Weston Road/CT Route 53/57 to the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation, State Project L157-001 Town Center Intersection and Pedestrian safety improvements?”
