Citizen of the Year Ceremony, Nov. 14

The public is invited to the Police Commission’s ceremony honoring the late Mark Blake as Citizen of the Year.

The event takes place on Monday, November 14 in the Town Hall Meeting Room at 6:00 pm.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Blake was a valued member of the Weston Volunteer Fire Department and Weston Volunteer EMS. He was also a Westport EMS supervisor. He passed away on September 20 after a long battle with Covid-19.

“It’s probably going to take ten people to do the things he did,” said Weston Volunteer Fire Department Chief John Pokorny.

Among Mr. Blake’s many contributions to public safety was Weston’s Child Passenger Safety program, which provided training on proper use of child car seats and, when necessary, donations of one.

“We will all miss him personally and professionally,” said EMS Chief Michael Schlechter. “He’s the kind of guy that left a really big footprint.”
