Larry Roberts, currently director of the Communications Center, was appointed Weston’s Director of Public Works and Facilities Management on June 1, taking over from John Conte, who is retiring.

Mr. Roberts is a 30-year Weston resident. His current duties include running the town’s emergency dispatch operation. Shortly after taking charge of dispatch in early 2021, he managed the renovation of the facility, doing much of the work himself. He also oversees Town facilities and oversees major projects.

Mr. Roberts led a yearlong analysis of the town’s emergency land mobile radio system, which resulted in a proposed major upgrade, a transition to the state’s system with new equipment and handheld units. A decision on that pends funding approval by voters on June 7.

Mr. Roberts became a member of the Weston Volunteer Fire Department in 1994. He also served in the fire department of Greenwich, becoming its Deputy Fire Chief in 2010. His role in Greenwich included policy and procedures development, budgeting, and the modernization of that town’s emergency communication systems.

Mr. Roberts holds an undergraduate degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and a master’s degree in fire science from the University of New Haven.
