A Farewell to Woody Bliss

After 50 years living in Weston and almost as long serving the community in a number of capacities, former First Selectman Woody Bliss is moving on, relocating to North Carolina to live close to his daughters and their families.

Friends and Republican colleagues said goodbye in an event at Town Hall on September 10. The event included the presentation of a proclamation from the Connecticut General Assembly recognizing Mr. Bliss for decades of service.

Mr. Bliss was Weston’s first selectman for eight years, elected to his first of four terms in 2001. Before that he had served as a selectman and as a member of the Board of Finance. Most recently, he has been a member of the Board of Police Commissioners.

Mr. Bliss has long been a member of Weston Kiwanis, was a founder of the Weston Historical Society (now the Weston History & Culture Center), was active at Norfield Congregational Church and treasurer of Friends of the Weston Senior Activities Center.
