Organizations Support Early Voting Amendment

Eleven Connecticut rights advocacy organizations today announced support for a proposed amendment to the State Constitution that would allow in-person early voting in future elections.

The question on the ballot for the November 8 election is: “Shall the Constitution of the State be amended to permit the General Assembly to provide for early voting?”

Organizations urging a yes vote today are:

ACLU of Connecticut Rise PAC
Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund
Bridgeport Generation Now Votes
Common Cause in Connecticut
Connecticut State Office, Hispanic Federation
Everyday Democracy
FairVote Action
Greater New Haven Branch NAACP
LatinoJustice PRLDEF
League of Women Voters of Connecticut
Legal Defense Fund (LDF)

In a joint statement, the organizations said, “We enthusiastically support this important amendment. Bringing early voting to Connecticut is a practical way to improve access to the democratic process for everyone. It will also reduce the unfair impact of transportation barriers, long lines, and inflexible work schedules, which can make voting on Election Day harder for voters of color.”

“Connecticut voters have waited long enough. It’s time to join the 46 other states (plus Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa) that already offer early voting. By voting ‘yes’ on the Early Voting Ballot Question, you can help move Connecticut forward — and increase meaningful access to the democratic process for all.”

Voting for the midterm election will be held at Weston Middle School on November 8 from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm. The entrance is at the rear of the building.
