Founders Day Celebration, Monday, October 11

Posing for the 2019 Founders Day town selfie

On Monday the 11th, Founders Day is a celebration of Weston’s 234 years and a look ahead to a bright future. The event is free and open to all.

It all takes place on the Town Green from 2:00 to 6:00, organized by WestonArts, who put on July’s memorable Fine Arts Festival.

You will enjoy food, family activities, exhibits, music, tributes, film, a lot of art, the company of good friends and neighbors, and with luck a reprise of the famous town selfie, a large group photo shot from above in the first Founders Day in 2019.

Music includes a singing of John Lennon’s “Imagine” by Weston High School students and performances by Chris Coogan and the Karl Schulz trio.

Among the artworks on display are “Stars of Hope” created by Weston artists. You, too, will have an opportunity to paint a Star of Hope with an inspirational message. It can be placed on a Tree of Hope on the Town Green, or you can keep it as a gift or as a holiday ornament. The donation is $10, or $25 for three people to paint stars.

Proceeds from the stars benefit WestonArts and Weston EMS. Both are 100 percent volunteer non-profit organizations that serve the community.

You will also have a chance to win a gift basket from the newly-opened Weston Pharmacy, a gift card from the Angel Cooperative in Ridgefield, and other gifts.

Tributes are planned for two Weston residents lost to us this year. In the Town Hall Meeting Room, actor Frank Converse will lead a tribute to the legendary Christopher Plummer, who died in February. Memories of longtime resident and activist Harvey Bellin, who passed away in January, will include a screening of “The Outlivers,” the charming film he made about Weston, which earned him an Emmy.
