Samantha Nestor Takes Office

Samantha Nestor was sworn in as First Selectwoman this morning at Town Hall. The oath was administered by Town Clerk Donna Anastasia at 10:00, when the resignation of First Selectman Chris Spaulding became effective.

In the statement below, Ms. Nestor paid tribute to Dr. Spaulding and pledged that she, Selectman Stephan Grozinger, and town staff would “ensure a smooth transition” and complete ongoing projects “with a shared belief in the greatness of our town.”

Our town owes an extraordinary debt of gratitude to First Selectman Chris Spaulding who unfortunately resigned effective today. Chris has left his post to tend to his personal health and a renewed focus on his family.

Chris has served our community with distinction and excellence for ten years, the last six on the Board of Selectmen. Chris has been the tireless, unabashed advocate for Weston that we all needed during our most trying times. Weston will be long indebted to Chris for his leadership, accomplishments and the humanity he has demonstrated during times of celebration and crisis.

I’d also like to acknowledge that no leader can accomplish their goals alone — and integral to Chris’s success were his wife Sara and their two children Emma and Jake. The town of Weston thanks you for loaning your husband and father to us and for supporting him in his efforts to make our town the best version of itself that he knew it could be.

On a personal level, I would like to express how grateful I am to call Chris a friend, colleague, and mentor.

It is in that spirit of friendship and collegiality that I commit myself wholeheartedly to the task of serving as your First Selectwoman. In a joint effort with my friend, Selectman Stephan Grozinger, we promise to ensure a smooth transition by working together, along with the outstanding town staff, to further ongoing projects which we have every intention of seeing through to completion.

Our town has faced unexpected changes before. And, as we have done time and time again, we will rise to the occasion calling upon our best asset — one another. So, I ask you my neighbors to join me in facing the future head-on, together, and with a shared belief in the greatness of our town.

Let’s get to work.

Yours with gratitude,
Samantha Nestor
First Selectwoman
