Letter to the Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

The Weston Veterans Day ceremony at the new Weston Town Green was outstanding. With the turmoil of war in the Middle East, the prayer that was offered by Norfield’s Reverend Jack Mahoney was deep and thought provoking. Captain Peter Dey, US Marine Reserves, an English teacher at Weston Middle School, brought us into today’s world of military preparedness and our readiness to defend our great nation.

Weston High School’s choral group opened with beautiful voices harmonizing “The Star-Spangled Banner” followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. I noticed all of the attendees joined in singing as well. First Selectman Sam Nestor, finished on a lighter note thanking all involved for today’s ceremony.

We would strongly encourage all Weston residents, whether your family has a veteran or not, to join in our town’s tribute next year. It is important to remember our service members who are currently serving, those who did serve in the past, and especially those who did not return to their loved ones.

The finale of today’s show was the most touching of all, when Weston Daisies and Brownies handed each veteran a specially made handwritten note of thanks.

Congratulations to Hutch Hutchins and the entire Weston Veterans Affairs Committee that organized the entire day of recognition and thanks to our veterans.
