Letter to the Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

It is my pleasure to write in support of Sean Scanlon for State Comptroller.

A less familiar position to many, the comptroller is Connecticut’s chief financial officer, managing the state’s bills, preparing financial reports, administering the state payroll, and overseeing the state health plan.

Sean has been hard at work developing the skills and experience necessary to excel in this technical position. As Chair of the State Legislature’s Finance Committee, he passed the largest tax cut in state history, reformed the unemployment system, and helped pay down our debt. As Chair of the Insurance Committee, he passed landmark laws protecting people with pre-existing conditions, prohibiting mental health discrimination, and capping the cost of insulin.

Outside of the legislature, he is Executive Director of the Tweed-New Haven Airport where he has quickly secured public-private investment and created new jobs. His plan is to scrutinize the state budget to realize savings and efficiencies. His goal has been, and will continue to be, making Connecticut more affordable for working families and small businesses. Please join me in voting for Sean Scanlon for State Comptroller.
