Letter to the Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

The Weston Democratic Town Committee (DTC) would like to express its sincerest gratitude to First Selectman Chris Spaulding for over a decade of dedicated service, leadership and immeasurable contributions to Weston.

Throughout his tenure as First Selectman, Second Selectman before that, Chris’s leadership, expertise and pragmatism were on full display and critical during uncertain fiscal and politically divisive times, especially during one of the most trying periods in recent history — the past challenging eighteen months of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chris always brought strength, humility, compassion, empathy, and thoughtful, dedicated analysis to the often tough decisions before him, and with a focus on what would benefit the town most.

Chris’s accomplishments both big and small have been numerous, many of which will have a positive impact on our lives for years to come. As Chris steps down from his current role he is leaving a town which is fiscally strong as a result of his leadership in the budgeting processes, and a town which will be connected for future generations by a transformative sidewalks initiative he spearheaded. He also oversaw the completion of the long-standing EMS facility enhancement project — funded both privately and publicly, and his imprimatur has been stamped on citizen engagement and volunteerism in our community.

In addition, Chris has guided Weston with a steady hand through many storms — the weather-related variety, unexpected town crises and the COVID winter and beyond. And, for that we are forever grateful.

Chris and the Spaulding family have also given so much of themselves to the DTC and the town and we will always remember their warmth, positive energy, and hospitality, and allowing many of us to invade their packed home during campaign seasons.

From the DTC family and Weston’s Democratic community we wish good health, good memories, and a bright future ahead for Chris and his family. We also hope to see Chris and Sara walking Old Hyde Road for many years to come.

A heartfelt thank you, First Selectman Spaulding. Dr. Spaulding. Chris. Friend.
