Letter to the Editor

TO THE EDITOR:

Appointments to the Supreme Court have pledged to deny women the right to bodily autonomy. They have opened the door to relinquishing hard-won rights and protections for the LGBTQ+ including the right to marry and become parents. They have shunned science, saying that the climate crisis facing our world is a matter of debate.

With the Supreme Court firmly in the hands of an extreme conservative majority that represents neither the will of the nation nor the will of Connecticut, it is more important than ever that we elect intelligent, thoughtful, people to the state legislature. We need representatives that we can count on to protect our rights, our bodies, and our planet.

In her first term as State Rep, Anne Hughes had the distinction of being named the 2019 Environmental Champion by the CT League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) for her work supporting Youth Climate Strikers, for protecting our air and water by advocating for a more aggressive transition to renewable energy, and updating our transportation infrastructure towards the goal of a carbon-neutral future. Anne is also a champion for social justice and women’s rights. We can count on Rep. Hughes to protect civil and reproductive rights, voting rights, and access to healthcare, and to protect our environment.
