The Westport Library book sale offers thousands of gently used books in over 50 categories, along with vintage children’s and antiquarian titles, audiobooks, CDs, vinyl, DVDs, ephemera, and framed artworks. Admission is free during general sale hours. Tickets for exclusive Friday morning early access, 8:45 am to noon, can be purchased here. On Sunday, almost everything is half price. On Monday, fill a logo bag ($10 each) or your own equivalent-sized bag for $8, or buy individual books at half price.

Save a Life: Hands-Only CPR

A free class by Weston EMS on recognizing medical emergencies, hands-only CPR, and how to use a defibrillator. Participants practice on Smart Manikins. 70 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home. Only 10 percent survive, but immediate CPR doubles or triples that rate. Another session takes place on Tuesday, December 9 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Sign up here.

Celebrating Jane Austen

Celebrating Jane Austen’s 250th birthday, enjoy a talk about the “Pride and Prejudice” author by social dance historian Susan de Guardiola. Also learn two dances popular in Jane Austen’s novels and during her life. Mini-cupcakes and tea will round out the afternoon. A free event, but with limited space registration is required. Co-sponsored by the Friends of the Weston Public Library and the Weston History & Culture Center.

Polar Express Day

Gather around for a cozy reading of The Polar Express, a timeless children’s classic. After the story, craft a keepsake “Believe” bell ornament to take home as a memory. Also visit the Great Trains Show, a miniature version of the Polar Express running through a magical winter scene. Register here (required). Admission is $5 per person for Wilton Historical Society non-members, free for members. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Community Menorah Lighting

All are welcome at the traditional lighting of the giant menorah led by Rabbi Levi Stone of the Schneerson Center for Jewish Life, CT, marking the Festival of Lights. The event features live music, individually wrapped Chanukah cookies, gelt, dreidels, and family-friendly holiday fun.

Enjoy live music from the jazz duo “On The Count of Two” and holiday treats made from World War II ration recipes. See authentic 1930s and 1940s holiday decorations, learn how World War II affected holiday celebrations, and listen to original radio broadcasts.
