Christian Blechinger, 49

November 27, 2018 — Christian Blechinger, age 49 of Weston, CT died unexpectedly on Saturday November 24, 2018. The son of Anton Blechinger and Ingrid Sommerfeld, Christian grew up in Munich, Germany. At 19 he enrolled in Georgetown University and graduated with a B.S. in International Economics. Later, he earned his MBA from Columbia Business School. It was at Columbia where Christian met his future bride, Jacqueline Kim, during a happy hour on the steps of Uris Hall. Full story.

Alden Sherman, 100

November 20, 2018 — Alden Outram Sherman, 100, of Weston died November 10, 2018 at Norwalk Hospital. He and his family moved to Westport in 1947 and then to Weston in 1956. He lived in the same Weston house at the time of his death. Full story.

The person I see described in these tributes has been the same person his entire life. President of the Penn Class of 1991, he was gregarious, caring, always lent an ear and went the extra mile. November 9, 2018 — The Weston Historical Society recently received two major grants totaling $600,000 from the Daniel E. Offutt Charitable Trust. The grants will enable the Historical Society to launch a major restoration of the Coley Homestead. Full story.

Selectmen Allocate Funds for School Security

May 21, 2018 — On May 17, the Board of Selectmen allocated $158,220 as a supplemental appropriation in the 2018-19 Town budget that will enable the Weston Police to hire an additional School Resource Officer (SRO) and fund 546 hours of overtime associated with patrolling Weston schools an additional three hours each school day. Students Walk Out in Honor of Parkland Victims

March 24, 2018 — Students across the nation organized a walkout on March 14, 2018, one month after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The walkout lasted from 10:00 AM to 10:17 AM, one minute for each of the 17 victims of the Parkland shooting. Full story.

February 3, 2018 — The League of Women Voters held their annual Speak Up event in the Community Room of the Weston Library on February 3. Attending from the town were all three members of the Board of Selectmen, representatives from almost every town department, commission and committee, plus Weston's three state legislators: Senator Toni Boucher, Senator Tony Hwang, and Representative Adam Dunsby. Board Advances Fracking Wastewater Ban

February 2, 2018 — In their February 1 meeting, the Board of Selectmen voted to send to counsel a proposed ordinance to prohibit fracking wastewater from Weston’s borders. The draft regulation was first presented to the board on January 18 by the town’s Sustainability Committee. Full story.

On February 1, 2018, the Board of Selectmen discussed the recently-announced price increase for beach stickers by the town of Westport. First Selectman Chris Spaulding said that the board wants “productive suggestions” from the public about how the issue might be addressed. Full story.

Town to Vote on Dog Park

In its January 18 meeting, Weston’s Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to let voters decide whether a section of town-owned land will be used as a dog park. The Board also referred the matter for further review to the Planning & Zoning commission, town Conservation Commission, and Parks & Recreation department.
