Rep. Anne Hughes Receives Democratic Endorsement

State Rep. Anne Hughes received the unanimous endorsement of the Democratic Party during the 135th State Assembly District’s nominating convention on May 11 and kicked off her campaign by speaking at the Voices for Choice rally at Wilton Town Hall last week.

Ben Fligelman, a graduating senior at Joel Barlow High School in Redding, nominated Hughes. Weston resident Erin Kirk seconded the nomination.

“Anne works for us, speaks for us, and fights for us, because she is one of us,” Fligelman said. “Anne knows that her job, at heart, revolves around the people of the 135th District and the State of Connecticut. That’s why she holds her in-person coffee hours each and every week, that’s why she sends us a regular stream of updates, and that’s why she has listened to us since day one bringing the values of the 135th District to Hartford.”

Hughes was first elected in 2018, becoming the first Democrat to represent the district in more than three decades. During her time in Hartford, Hughes has played an instrumental role in the passage of Paid Family Medical Leave, a balanced budget that cut more than $600 million dollars in taxes, historic investments in children’s mental health, childcare and nonprofit service providers and bold climate change legislation.

After receiving the endorsement, Hughes spoke at the Voices for Choice rally at Wilton Town Hall and Weston’s League of Women Voters Legislative SpeakOut.

Rep. Hughes is also a social worker at Jewish Senior Services, an activist, a seasoned organizational leader, and community builder. She represents the 135th Congressional District in the Connecticut General Assembly, which includes all of Weston, Redding and much of Easton.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
