U.S. Senator Chris Murphy suffered a stroke on Saturday and is being treated at Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins Hospital.

A statement from his chief of staff reports that the senator is “awake and alert,” and that “we are optimistic he will make a full recovery.”

On Saturday, Senator Murphy experienced numbness in his arm at his son’s hockey game, was taken to a local hospital, diagnosed, and transferred to Johns Hopkins.

“Chris is a great friend to Connecticut and to me personally,” said Governor Ned Lamont in a statement. “Annie and I are keeping him and his family in our prayers.”

State Sen. Ryan Fazio, Mr. Lamont’s opponent, said, “I am keeping Sen. Murphy and his family in my prayers during this challenging moment and wish him a full and speedy recovery.”
