Easton Police issued a summons over the weekend to State Rep. Anne Hughes (D, Easton, Redding, Weston), following a complaint that campaign signs for her opponent, Darrell Harris (R), had been stolen from roadsides and AirTag-tracked to Ms. Hughes’ home.
The charge is Larceny in the Sixth Degree, a Class C misdemeanor.
“Yesterday I removed lawn signs that shouldn’t have been on public property,” said Rep. Hughes in a statement. “I apologize for removing them rather than contacting the police or my opponent’s campaign to remove them, and I take full responsibility and accountability for my actions.”
In a statement, the Weston Democratic Town Committee said the committee “finds this behavior unacceptable,” and that “campaigns should be carried out in a civil manner” with respect for dialogue and the property of others.
