Selectman Tony Pesco announced at the Board of Selectmen meeting on October 15 that he is resigning from the board, effective at the end of the month.
Dr. Pesco said it has been an “absolute privilege serving the town,” and that “I’m not moving, I’m not going anywhere.” But, he said, he is traveling extensively and will be spending less time in Weston.
With important decisions coming in the next two years, Dr. Pesco said he wanted to give up the seat to someone with a long-term view who can “represent the citizens who are going to have to make decisions that will have an impact on the town financially and otherwise for the next couple of decades.”
First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor read a proclamation praising Dr. Pesco’s service to the community, including five years on the Board of Education, three as its chair, and three as a selectman. October 15 was declared Anthony Pesco Appreciation Day.
Selectwoman Lauren Traum also thanked Dr. Pesco for his years of service. “It takes a special kind of person to devote the time,” she said, and noted his “steady presence” leading the school district through the Covid-19 pandemic.
