Winning Start for Girls Soccer

It’s a strong start to the season for Weston High School’s varsity girls soccer team, with two wins in their first two games.
The season opened at home on September 8 with what coach Gustavo Reaes called a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Newtown.
On the 10th the team was away at Bunnell, and turned in another clean sheet with a 6-0 win.

Aiming high
Coach Reaes is enthusiastic about the team’s chances this year, pleased that the players “trust the system” and “check all the boxes” in preparation and training.
“We always expect to qualify for the playoffs,” he said. “This year we’re shooting for a title.”
Results so far
Against Newtown, Hadley Grace scored the winning goal early in the first half with an assist by Lindsay Bartlett. Coach Reaes hailed keeper Kayla Egurbide for protecting the lead with four saves, three in one-on-one challenges.
The coach said the team used possession to counter Newtown’s speed, remained organized defensively, and despite being outshot handled pressure well and “defended with determination.”
Against Bunnell two days later, the team scored all of its six goals before the half, led by Lindsay Bartlett’s hat trick. Hadley Grace found the back of the net twice, and Dylan Schramm scored once.
Coach Reaes said the team put in a strong performance with “excellent wing play, intelligent movement, confident one-on-one attacking and clinical finishing.”
