Memorial Day Ceremony Held

Weather canceled Weston’s Memorial Day Parade, but the outdoor ceremony that follows each year was still held, indoors at Fire Station No. 1.

First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor opened and closed the ceremony. Rev. Katy Piazza of Emmanuel Church delivered the invocation.

The National Anthem was sung, and the Pledge was recited.

Those in the packed firehouse heard remarks by Weston Volunteer Fire Department President Craig Cohen and a tribute to veterans by Selectwoman Lauren Traum.

Ms. Nestor also introduced Grand Marshal Gordon Green, a Weston resident since 1973 and a Life Member of the fire department. Mr. Green served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1956.

Girl Scouts placed a memorial wreath, a moment of silence followed, and Rev. Stephan Grozinger of the Independent Lutheran Diocese provided a benediction.
