Officer Phousisongkhamloy Chokbengboune became the newest member of the Weston Police Department on February 2, sworn in at Town Hall by First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor. His badge was affixed by his wife as colleagues and members of the town’s emergency response services looked on.

Police Chief Ed Henion said, “we got a very experienced person. It’s an honor to be able to hire him in Weston.”

Chief Henion said Officer Chokbengboune was born in a refugee camp in Bangkok, Thailand, where his Laotian parents had been “relocated.” The family eventually immigrated to the United States, first to North Dakota, then to the east coast.

Familiarly referred to simply as “Chok,” Officer Chokbengboune served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps. For three years he was a member of the Bethel police force, then became a Connecticut state trooper. His 20-year career with the State Police included service as an academy instructor, field training officer, drug recognition expert, and accident reconstruction expert. He recently retired at the rank of sergeant.

“I’ve spent many years in uniform since high school,” said Officer Chokbengboune, who thanked his wife and two children for supporting his career. “My purpose is to help people and make a difference if I can. I promise you that I will do my best for the residents of Weston and also the police officers who came today and who set such high standards.”

The ceremony was officiated by Police Commission chair David Muller. Rev. Dr. Bernard Wilson of Norfield Congregational Church provided an invocation following a welcome from Ms. Nestor. Fr. Augustine of St. Francis of Assisi delivered the benediction.
