An annual community service campaign by Weston High School DECA members collected more than 2,100 books in support of Darien Book Aid, a volunteer nonprofit that distributes free books to libraries and schools around the world.

In DECA’s ten-week “Give the Gift of Reading” initiative, members set up donation bins at the Weston Public Library and schools and promoted the campaign with posters placed on campus and elsewhere in the community.

DECA president Gavin Villepigue, a high school senior, said students and families contributed “an extraordinary number” of gently used children’s and young adult books. The volumes were sorted, boxed, and delivered to Darien Book Aid by DECA members.

“I believe this campaign showed the power of our community coming together to make a difference,” said Mr. Villepigue. “Every book donated represents an opportunity for a young reader somewhere in the world.”
