A food drive organized by the Weston Police takes place on Saturday and Sunday, November 8th and 9th from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon both days.
The drive is held in the garage next to the Fire Department at 56 Norfield Road, aiming to make sure shelves at the Weston Food Pantry are fully stocked with non-perishable food and needed household items.
Food pantry president Anne Bigin says items most needed include:
- Pasta (all types)
- Diced or crushed tomatoes
- Hearty soups (chowders, beef, etc.)
- Canned vegetables (spinach, beets, but no green beans or corn)
- Canned fruit (pineapple, mango, etc.)
- Cooking oil
- Oatmeal, grits, or boxed cereal
- Granola and breakfast bars
- Rice (white, brown, pilaf, etc.)
- Instant potatoes
- Canned chicken or tuna
- Mayonnaise
- Snack foods (Goldfish, pretzels, etc.)
- Coffee or tea
- Juice (apple, cranberry, etc.)
- Toilet paper and paper towels
- Cleaning products (multi-purpose cleaner, Windex, bleach, etc.)
- Canned dog and cat food
Financial support is also welcome. Donations can be made in cash, via Venmo (@Weston-Foodpantry), and by check made out to Weston Food Pantry. “Every contribution, no matter the size,” says Ms. Bigin, “helps us keep our shelves stocked and our neighbors supported.”
About 75 Weston households qualify to use the food pantry, which is run by volunteers. 30 to 40 families visit each week. The Weston Food Pantry is one of the few where families can select specific items they need, instead of receiving pre-packed bags.
