A Poe Reading for Halloween

On October 31, a spooky Halloween treat only for adults 18 and above at Lachat Town Farm features Broadway, TV, and film star Frank Converse in a candlelit reading of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Pit and the Pendulum.”

The event runs from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Tickets, $20, are available here.

It all starts after sundown with hot toddies, wine, and beer around the campfire. The dramatic reading takes place in the barn, set on high-eerie for the story of a tortured prisoner whose hopes for survival diminish as seven white candles slowly burn down.

For years a Weston resident, Mr. Converse first earned acclaim on the big screen for “Hour of the Gun” (as Virgil Earp) and “Hurry Sundown.” Stardom came with television’s “Coronet Blue” and “NYPD.” His decades-long career also includes TV roles in hits like “Law & Order” and “Murder She Wrote.” On stage, Broadway roles include “The Philadelphia Story” and “A Streetcar Named Desire.”

Closer to home, Mr. Converse starred with Paul Newman at Westport Country Playhouse in “Our Town” and “Later Life.”

Chairs are provided for the show. The producers encourage dressing for cool temperatures and maybe bringing a blanket. If it rains, everything is indoors.
