EMS Volunteers Take the Wheel

Ambulance activity behind Weston Middle School this weekend is a training program for Weston EMS volunteers, an Emergency Vehicle Operators Certificate (EVOC) class.
The training, led by Jeff Pinckney and Brian Elliott of Mission CIT, is a combination of lecture and active driving. Mission CIT, a training partner of EMS, provides a variety of services to emergency responders throughout the region.
Mr. Pinckney’s discussion focused on best practices for use of lights and sirens, legal provisions for speed and their implications on liability, maneuvering on congested highways and surface streets, and operating a rig in tight spots.
Volunteers then took the wheel, navigating through a maze of cones and practicing hard stops in confined spaces. EMS Chief Michael Schlechter said the training, done every other year, “is a great way to maintain skills and ensure safety.”
