A donation from the Weston Gun Club Foundation has helped put new lifesaving equipment into the hands of the Weston Volunteer Fire Department.
The $12,000 donation goes toward new extrication tools, better known as the “Jaws of Life,” used in various emergencies to speed rescue, particularly to free victims trapped in a vehicle after a crash.
“We’re deeply grateful to the Weston Gun Club for their continued support of our department and the community we serve,” said Chief John Pokorny in a statement.
Over the past 26 years, the foundation has made more than 40 grants to various Weston services, including funds for police protective gear in 2024 and field packs and equipment for EMS Rapid Response teams in 2022.
Previous Weston Gun Club grants funded other police, fire, and EMS needs and supported Town Hall, the Senior Center, Devil’s Den, and Lachat Town Farm. The Weston Public School District has received more than a dozen grants, including funding for a drug and alcohol awareness program, cameras and equipment for photography classes, and the junior varsity lacrosse and girls golf teams.
