Attorney Ira Bloom Honored

Ira W. Bloom, senior partner at Berchem Moses PC and town attorney for Weston and other municipalities, has been honored by the International Municipal Lawyers Association.
Mr. Bloom will formally receive the Marvin J. Glink Private Practice Local Government Attorney Award in New Orleans at the IMLA annual meeting on October 17.
The national award recognizes “an exceptional private practice attorney serving municipal clients” who demonstrates the traditional qualities of excellence, provides outstanding service to the public, and possesses “an exemplary reputation in the legal community, the highest of ethical standards,” and is devoted to mentoring young lawyers and educating lawyers in local government law.
“I am greatly honored by this,” said Attorney Bloom in a statement. “It has been very gratifying for me to combine my private practice with public sector law. I am always so impressed by the dedication and expertise of the municipal officials with whom I have worked. And my colleagues at the law firm provide me with great support.”
Mr. Bloom is currently town attorney for Weston, Westport, and New Canaan. He is also town counsel for Wilton, counsel for Easton, and has represented a number of other towns on land use and other matters.
In Westport, he has served as a member of the Representative Town Meeting, chair of the Board of Education, and has been involved in several civic organizations.
Mr. Bloom has held leadership positions in bar associations, including membership in the Connecticut Bar Association, as president of the Connecticut Bar Association Planning and Zoning Section, and is a James W. Cooper Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation.
Professional recognition includes an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell, selection to the Connecticut and New England Super Lawyers lists since 2008 for land use and zoning law, and inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America for land use and zoning law, and municipal law.
