A gathering on September 7 honored long-serving community volunteer Dawn Egan, who will be moving to Texas early next year.

First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor hosted the celebration at her home, where Senator Richard Blumenthal presented a U.S. Senate certificate honoring Ms. Egan for her service, State Rep. Anne Hughes presented a recognition from the Connecticut General Assembly, and State Rep. Sarah Keitt presented one on behalf of Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz.

Democratic Town Committee chair Cheri McKenzie, who officiated, presented the DTC’s Democrat of the Year award to Ms. Egan.

The gathering also heard from Maria Rowbatham, a longtime friend who described Ms. Egan as “a woman whose loyalty inspires loyalty, whose love creates family. She listens, she shows up, she believes in people, and she believes in this community.”

Ms. McKenzie said Ms. Egan has made an impact in Weston as a PTO president, 10-year member of the Police Commission and its current chair, co-creator and chair of the Neighborhood Block Captain program, chair of the Weston Community Fund, and as a leader of the Weston Warm-Up Fund, the Weston Boosters Club, the Weston Women’s League, and Weston Kiwanis.

“For 15 years she has guided young leaders as an advisor to the high school,” said Ms. McKenzie. “Her leadership has extended to many successful fundraising efforts from turf fields to playgrounds to fire stations and hospitals.”
