T-Mobile Shuts Down in Weston

A sudden shutdown of T-Mobile cellular service in Weston has left customers disconnected, at least for the time being, but possibly permanently.
The company has not come to terms with the Town on a lease to use the cell tower on the municipal campus. The Town recently took full control of the tower and successfully reached agreements with AT&T and Verizon.
First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor issued the following statement:
“This process to change control over the tower began years ago with my predecessor, Chris Spaulding. We came to successful terms with two carriers, and the market price has been established based on Verizon and AT&T, and we are hopeful that an arrangement can be made with T-Mobile.”
“THE TOWN DID NOT SHUT DOWN T-MOBILE SERVICE.”
“As part of ongoing discussion, T-Mobile made a business decision to shut down the tower service remotely, without notifying the Town or their customers.”
“T-Mobile is still leasing on the transfer station tower. The Town is still continuing to pursue an ongoing dialogue with T-Mobile in the hopes of finding resolution.”
The shutdown appears to affect all Weston T-Mobile users, including students, teachers, and emergency responders. Users in nearby towns may also be affected.
