Connecticut’s annual sales tax-free week starts on Sunday August 17 and runs through Saturday August 23.
During that week, retail purchases of most clothing and footwear priced under $100 are exempt from the sales tax. The $100 limit applies to individual items that are eligible, so you can buy any number in the same transaction and not pay sales tax. But each item in the batch must cost less than $100.
“Our annual sales tax holiday gives Connecticut consumers some extra savings during the busy back-to-school retail season,” said Governor Ned Lamont. “I encourage everyone to take advantage of these savings.”
A list with examples of eligible items can be found here.
The same page lists cases where the exemption does not apply: special items not normally worn for anything other than athletic activity or protective use. Also not included are jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, wallets, watches, and similar products not considered clothing.
Savings from the sales tax-free week offer, said Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, “a great reason to shop locally, where every dollar spent supports our neighborhoods and communities.”
