Dog Licenses Due

State law requires all dogs over six months old to be licensed, a fact that Weston Animal Control Officer Melissa Seeley worries isn’t known by many in town.

If your dog happens to get lost, “the license is the fastest and easiest way to get the dog back home,” said Officer Seeley.

Licenses are annual, due each year by July 1. They are issued by the Town Clerk. A simple application form can be viewed and downloaded here. You must provide proof of a current rabies vaccination, which all or most dog daycare centers would require anyway.

The license fee is $8 (cash or check only) for spayed or neutered dogs, $19 for those that are not. You must also present proof of spaying or neutering to get the lower fee.

Officer Seeley notes that if a dog over the age of six months is found and does not have a license, the fine is $75 for each unlicensed dog in the home.
