Erica Forti, currently superintendent of schools in East Haven, has been appointed superintendent of the Weston Public School district.
Ms. Forti has led the East Haven district for the past eight years, following six years as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. Before that, she was the district’s curriculum coordinator, a position she took in 2007.
Ms. Forti began her career in education in 1998 as a classroom teacher in New Haven. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clark University and a Master of Arts from Southern Connecticut State University, where as an adjunct professor she teaches graduate-level education courses.
Board of Education chair Steve Ezzes said the selection of Ms. Forti was the product of an extensive process aided by a search firm, where more than a dozen candidates were narrowed to a field of six, then three who participated in several rounds of interviews.
At press time, Ms. Forti’s start date is not yet determined, pending the timing of her departure from East Haven. In the meantime, Assistant Superintendent Tina Henckel will act as superintendent.
In a statement, the Board of Education thanked Deborah Low, whose service as interim superintendent ends on June 30, saying “her experience as both an educator and a superintendent has been critical to ensuring continuity. We are grateful that Debbie remains a part of the Weston community and will continue to be a valued resource for our educational team.”
