A collection of essays by Weston author Aline Weiller has won a top award from the National Federation of Press Women, but in a turn of events fitting for someone who writes about quirky life experiences, she won’t know which level until September.
The book, FUN: Essays on a Life Embraced — “a collection of humorous and hopeful slice-of-life stories” — already took first place at the Connecticut Press Club Awards in the creative nonfiction category, winning automatic entry to the national contest. Ms. Weiller also won press club honorable mentions for a specialty food article and website editing.
She is a Weston native who graduated from Weston High School, moved away, then came back as an adult 26 years ago. She now has a dozen Connecticut Press Club awards to her name, garnered over several years for creative nonfiction (essays), public relations work, and editing.
Ms. Weiller is also a stand-up comedian, journalist, and pop culture enthusiast, the latter on display in “FUN: Essays on a Life Embraced.”
One Amazon reviewer wrote, “What a fun trip through the 70s and 80s! I devoured the book in two settings. Light, airy and nostalgic while covering some deep things we all go through.”
In 2011, Ms. Weiller founded a Weston business, Wordsmith, LLC, a public relations, marketing, and copywriting firm.
