Police, EMS, Fire Train for Rescue

Weston police, volunteer firefighters, and EMS volunteers trained for the aftermath of a mass casualty event on the evening of May 20, assembling as a Rescue Task Force at Weston Intermediate School.
The police regularly train for responding to an active threat, but the drill on Tuesday was the first joint training by all three services on what comes next in the event of such an emergency. Teams of Fire and EMS personnel enter a “warm scene” protected by Weston police officers, who ascertain that no threat remains. Casualties are located, triage is performed, and victims are removed to waiting ambulances.
Volunteers, many of them high school students, played the role of victims in various parts of the school. The training was one of a series of sessions that will occur on an ongoing basis. At the end, emergency responders gathered in the school cafeteria for a debrief and pizza.
