Exhibition Features a “Forgotten Village”

A new exhibition opens at the Weston History & Culture Center on Sunday, April 27, “Images of a Forgotten Village: Valley Forge,” the story in photographs of the village that once was a small but successful manufacturing center but whose remains now lie at the bottom of the Saugatuck Reservoir.
The opening is set for 1:00 to 3:00 on the 27th. At 3:00, Weston author Heather Pemberton discusses her new novel, “Hidden Below,” a story inspired by the inundation of Valley Forge in the 1930s.
Admission is free, but a $5 donation is suggested for those not yet WHCC members.
With the help of the Weston Library Photography Club, the exhibition contains images taken of the village and its residents on glass plate negatives in the late 1800s, contemporaneous photographs of construction of the reservoir and dam, and present-day photos of the reservoir that offer hints about the past.
The exhibition will be open through the end of the year during the Weston History & Culture Center’s public hours: Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 and the same hours on the first and last Sunday of each month. The center is closed on holiday weekends and holidays.
