ECOFEST at Lachat, May 4

ECOFEST, a family celebration of nature at Lachat Town Farm on Sunday, May 4, features live music, food trucks, games, hands-on activities, demonstrations, and interesting animals.
It takes place at the farm from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Admission is free.
Highlights include musical performances by Birdsong, the Eliot Thompson Band, and The Breakers, and a live animal showcase by Christine’s Critters.
Kids can enjoy face painting, fly casting, a nature scavenger hunt, a relay, a poster contest, rock art, and more.
There is even a raffle, one with a particular eco-twist.
For five years, hardworking volunteers and students have generated more than $61,000 by turning redeemable cans and bottles into revenue for the Weston High School Boosters Club and Green Team. Now, the “Cans+Bottles” initiative is about to collect its one millionth can or bottle.
Bring a bag with 25 or more ten-cent redeemables to ECOFEST, and you will be entered into a raffle for a $250 cash prize.
ECOFEST is all about nature and treating it with the respect it deserves, so the event also includes interactive talks on environmentally friendly gardening, recycling, lawn care, and invasive plants.
Invasives get extra attention one hour before ECOFEST kicks off. At 10:00 am, a special family edition of “Pulling Together” runs, a hands-on workshop where volunteers learn how to identify, remove, and dispose of invasive plants, mostly by doing it. The regular workshop runs frequently at Lachat, with great results. Register here for the special edition.
ECOFEST is a collaborative event by Lachat Town Farm, the Town’s Sustainable Weston Committee, the Green Teams of Weston schools, and students in the high school’s Sustainable Solutions classes.
