A team of Weston High School students will vie for a world championship in the annual VEX Robotics competition to begin in Dallas on May 6.

The team of Emily Arias, Joshua Miranda, Cooper Schleef and Angela Zhao is coached by teacher Rebecca Kaplan. Qualification for the prestigious international event followed an award-winning season capped by a standout performance in the state championship tournament.

Each year, students in the VEX Robotics program design, build, program, and drive a robot to complete a specific challenge. More than 20,000 teams from 50 countries and every state in the U.S. participate in competitions worldwide.

VEX competitions and programs are managed by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, dedicated to STEM education aimed at helping students develop problem-solving and computational skills.
