Artists Call: “Weston Connections”

Artists are invited to submit works to be considered for a July exhibition by the Weston Commission for the Arts and the Friends of the Weston Library.

The exhibition will be at the Weston Public Library for the entire month of July. Special programs will run alongside it.

Up to three works can be submitted by artists over the age of 14 who have a connection to Weston by being a current resident, former resident, or by working or volunteering in town. A connection could also be that the artist’s work depicts a local subject. There is no entry fee.

Paintings, drawings, collages, digital art and other media are welcome, but due to space limitations freestanding sculpture cannot be accommodated. Works selected for the exhibition will be chosen by a committee of members of the commission and the Friends.

Artists can choose to offer their work for sale, in which case the work must remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. A donation to the Friends of the Weston Library, 10 percent of the sale price, is requested.

Submissions

Artwork, prepared as JPEG image files, can be submitted from April 1 through May 15. Instructions and more information about the show can be found here.

Notification about selections will be sent by June 18. Artwork chosen for the exhibition must be delivered to the library on the afternoon of June 30 between 2:00 and 5:30. It must be picked up on August 2 between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm.

Special July programs

For the public, a reception on July 9 at 6:00 pm is an opportunity to hear from artists about their connection to Weston and what inspired their work.

On Saturday, July 12, a program led by portrait artist Cindy Wagner includes an opportunity for adults to draw a live, clothed model. The session runs from 1:00 to 4:00. Register by email to cindywagnerart@gmail.com, and bring your own supplies.

On July 26, also a Saturday, professional artists will guide and encourage younger artists ages 8 to 18 in a drawing class. The program runs from 1:30 to 3:30. Register by email to cindywagnerart@gmail.com.
