U.S. Representative Jim Himes speaks and answers questions on Saturday, March 8 at the weekly breakfast meeting of Weston Kiwanis. Everyone is invited. Doors open at the Norfield Church parish hall at 8:30 am.

You are also invited to enjoy breakfast, if you choose, for $10. The program with Congressman Himes starts at 9:00. It would be helpful, but not required, to RSVP by email to Lisa Wexler.

Among other congressional duties, Mr. Himes is the ranking member (the senior Democrat) of the House Intelligence Committee. This week, he voted against the House budget resolution, which passed by a final vote of 217–215 on strict party lines.

“I voted against a budget resolution,” said Mr. Himes, “that guts support systems for our most vulnerable communities to pay for tax breaks for billionaires, all while adding $2.8 trillion to the national deficit.”

“Americans are facing higher grocery costs than ever before. They’re struggling with gas prices, heating bills, and medical debt. But instead of trying to lower costs, the Republican majority passed a budget that sets the stage for $2.5 trillion in cuts from Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Programs, threatening medical coverage for 80 million people.”
