A Toast to the Playhouse

A one-night-only event on March 10 is a toast to the Westport Country Playhouse, its legacy, and the people who bring shows to life on its stage.

“Get Ready for Theatre People!” takes place at the Playhouse on the 10th from 6:00 to 8:00, an evening of cocktails, stories, and backstage tours. Tickets, $25 or $15 for Encore Club members, are available here. Seating is unreserved and limited to 50 attendees.

An alumni panel including actors Mia Dillon, Keir Dullea, Joe Delafield, Michael McCormick, former co-artistic director Anne Keefe, and more to be announced will share personal anecdotes from their roles at the theater. The moderator will be Mark Shanahan, the Westport Country Playhouse artistic director.

Also on the program: a cocktail party and behind-the-scenes tours led by Playhouse archivist and historian Bruce Miller.

The event comes a couple of weeks before the Playhouse opening of “Theatre People,” Paul Slade Smith’s adaptation of Ferenc Molnár’s classic Hungarian farce “Play at the Castle.” Characters in the comedy, set in 1948 in a Newport mansion, are in love with theater and trying to write a surefire Broadway hit. With romance, misunderstandings, and surprises, they manage to create as much drama among themselves as in the script.

“Theatre People” opens on March 25 and runs through April 12. Tickets are available now, and can be purchased at a discount at “Get Ready for Theatre People!”
