The Norfield Church property was covered with fresh snow as Kiwanians gathered on Super Bowl Sunday. Club members loaded donated freshly cooked food and other tasty treats for the annual Super Bowl party the club sponsors for veterans living at Homes For The Brave (men) and Madaras Home for Women Veterans in Bridgeport.
At the Homes For the Brave site Kiwanians reheated turkey, spiral ham, chili, mac and cheese, and pulled pork. Tasty treats included cake, cookies, chips and salsa, soda, and an assortment of vegetables. After serving the veterans club members washed the dishes and headed home.
Homes For The Brave provides the housing and services necessary to help veteran men return to a productive and meaningful life. The organization provides a model to enable homeless men attain safe, affordable housing, meaningful life activity, and a livable income. The Madaras Home for Women Veterans is a transitional home exclusively for women veterans experiencing homelessness. The program helps women by meeting their needs for a safe, secure home, quality food, and by empowering residents to move forward with their long-term goals: obtaining permanent housing, achieving financial stability, and working toward greater self-determination.
