An outpouring of affection on Christmas Eve Day at Balducci’s in Westport was for the popular cashier Charlotte, who at age 93 drives at least half an hour to work and charms everyone.

The event was a big surprise that came with a big gift, a tangible representation of that affection from a GoFundMe campaign organized by Dan Frank, who likely qualifies as Charlotte’s biggest fan.

“Every interaction with you lifts me up,” said Mr. Frank. “You make every day better.” With that, he presented Charlotte with an oversize check for the $28,950 contributed by many others in her legion of admirers.
