A Polar Bear Plunge into the very cool waters of Westport’s Compo Beach takes place on Wednesday, January 1 at 11:00 am.
Billed as “freezin’ for a reason,” the Plunge supports Abilis, a Fairfield County nonprofit that serves and supports more than 800 individuals with disabilities and their families.
You can register here to take the plunge. Once you do, you can help fundraise for the cause. Or just make a donation. You can also register on the spot at the event.
The Plunge goes on regardless of weather. Spectators are welcome. Afterwards, enjoy sweet treats and hot cocoa.
Proceeds will go to a renovation of Abilis Gardens & Gifts, a retail and employee training site that is also a working gift and flower shop. It is part of Abilis’s Competitive Employment Program and provides job training and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
The event was organized by Weston residents Gena and Billy Mann. Ms. Mann said, “We’ve experienced firsthand how programs like those at Abilis can transform lives. The renovation of Abilis Gardens & Gifts will create even more opportunities for meaningful employment and skill development.”
Alibis, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, supports the disability community in more than 70 residential independent living houses in Fairfield County, including a new one that opened this year in Westport.
