Veterans Day was observed on the Town Green on Monday morning in the traditional Weston ceremony.

A welcome from Matt Vanlandingham of the town’s Veterans Affairs Committee was followed by the Weston High School Choral Group singing the national anthem and leading the pledge.

Members of the high school American Heroes Club placed a wreath and Rabbi Michael Friedman of Temple Israel offered a prayer. James Carlon, the featured speaker, spoke about service, unity, and putting aside differences. First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor recognized veterans and expressed gratitude. Then, Brownies and Daisies handed out handmade thank-you cards to all the veterans in attendance.

After the ceremony, veterans had lunch at Weston High School with visits from students and a discussion panel. Earlier in the day, veterans and their spouses had a continental breakfast in the Weston Middle School cafeteria, followed by an all-school assembly in the gym, where three middle school grades performed “A Red, White and Blue Extravaganza.” A living history session followed in the library, where veterans had informal talks about their service experience with small groups of 8th grade students.
