It’s bad enough when an actor doesn’t know his lines. It’s even worse when he doesn’t even know what show he is in.
That’s the theme of Christopher Durang’s “The Actor’s Nightmare,” the first of three one-act plays that stage by Company, the Weston High School theater group, on Friday and Saturday, November 15 and 16. Tickets are available here.
The short comic play’s main character is a man who is (or believes he is) an accountant. Despite having no recollection of being an actor or attending rehearsals, he is mistaken for an understudy, and finds himself on stage improvising lines of a play that makes little sense to begin with.
The show’s other two one-acts are dark comedic takes on Shakespeare by playwright Laura Neill.
The question in “Juliet Wakes Up” is this: what if, after Romeo’s death, Juliet didn’t follow suit? And is Romeo really dead? And if he is dead, is she complicit? Either way, now what does she do?
In “The Revenge of Gertrude,” the question is: what if that wasn’t poison in the queen’s cup at the end of Hamlet, but honey? So, she doesn’t die. Will everyone remember that the throne is to be hers? And if they don’t, what will she do?
