Fairfield County Democratic candidates for legislative offices gathered in Weston on October 21 for Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and her Power of Women political action committee.
The event was held at the home of First Selectwoman Samantha Nestor. Ms. Bysiewicz said the committee exists “to help men and women who support progressive Democratic policies.”
“We’re focused,” said the Lt. Governor, “on helping Democrats who support reproductive freedom, gun safety, fiscally responsible policies, and families.” This, she said, is “so Governor Lamont and I can have partners who help us continue to keep Connecticut on a fiscally sound path, producing the seventh balanced budget, $1 billion in tax cuts over past two years, paying down hundreds of millions in debt, and preserving a robust rainy day fund.”
Candidates appearing at the event included State Senator Ceci Maher and State Rep. Anne Hughes, both of whom represent Weston in the General Assembly and are running for reelection.
Other candidates seeking reelection as State Representative and speaking at the event included Rep. Rachel Khanna (149th district, Greenwich and Stamford), Rep. Sarah Keitt (134th, Fairfield and Trumbull), and Rep. Cristin McCarthy Vahey (133rd, Bridgeport and Fairfield).
Democrats challenging incumbents also spoke, including State Representative candidates Beth Cliff (112th, Monroe, Easton, Trumbull), Savet Constantine (42nd, Wilton, New Canaan, Ridgefield), Michelle Embree Ku (106th, Newtown), Sheila Quinn (141st, Darien, Norwalk), Tom Tesoro (123rd, Trumbull), and State Senate candidate Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox (22nd, Bridgeport, Monroe, Trumbull).
