Editor’s Note, October 15, 2024: the FEMA center in Wilton has closed. The center in Southbury is still available to those who need in-person assistance.
Governor Ned Lamont announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened two Disaster Recovery Centers — one in Wilton, the other in Southbury — to help homeowners, renters, businesses, and private nonprofits apply for federal aid to recover from the storm and flood damage of August 18.
The Wilton center is at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 229 Danbury Road. The Southbury center is at Town Hall, 501 Main Street South. Residents of any town who were affected by the storm can visit either center.
Both FEMA centers are open Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. On Saturdays, the hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Sunday hours are 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
“It is strongly encouraged that anyone seeking assistance should apply as soon as possible to meet all federal deadlines,” said Governor Lamont.
The centers are staffed by representatives who can provide program information, explain how to apply for federal disaster aid, answer questions, and provide information about repairs and rebuilding to make homes more disaster resistant.
A FEMA center visit is not a requirement of applying for federal disaster aid. Applications can also be filed online, by calling the FEMA Helpline at (800) 621-3362, or on a FEMA app that is available on the App Store and Google Play.
Last week, the Small Business Administration (SBA) opened Business Recovery Centers in Monroe and Oxford to provide similar in-person assistance to businesses and homeowners.
