METEOR About to Strike

Last year the theater group at Lachat Town Farm brought you the spooky “Village of the DamNed” and earlier this year staged the romantic musical “Once.” Now they have another immersive experience coming your way.

The original production METEOR is billed as “a cosmic Halloween experience like no other,” where the farm is transformed into a “frightening, otherworldly adventure.”

So buckle up. Tickets are on sale at lachattownfarm.org for the October 18 debut and five other dates. Be warned, seats at shows like this tend to go fast.

Here is the story.

Fire in the sky

Imagine a cold winter morning, right here in Weston. That’s easy, because there are no warm winter mornings in Weston. At least not yet.

Anyway, it’s about an hour before sunrise. You are walking alone across an empty field. Suddenly, you hear a thunderous boom. Even though it’s dark, you see your shadow, because way up in the sky a bright, blazing fireball is streaking across the heavens, plummeting toward the earth.

You are shocked. You are awed. You are frozen in your tracks. Remember, it’s cold.

Suddenly the fireball breaks up into pieces, each crashing into the ground like a cannonball only a few hundred yards ahead.

Naturally, you investigate.

By the way, all of this actually happened. Except for the part about you. It occurred on December 14, 1807. That fireball — a 28-pound space rock (broken into six pieces) — set off a firestorm politically and scientifically. It was soon and forever known as the Weston meteorite.

So, it’s a true story. But is it the whole story?

The creators of METEOR imagine an untold part.

The truth is out there

What if some strange entity had hitched a ride on the meteorite, a lifeform that was also a kind of deathform? What if, in your investigation, you picked up a fragment? Would anything bad happen to you? And what if survival required solving a mystery about supernatural creatures?

You can find out for yourself at Lachat by getting immersed in a performance on October 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, and 27. Pick one here.

The show is an interactive, 45-minute guided walking tour filled with live actors, scary scenes, and chilling surprises. Seasonal treats and drinks will be available.

The producers advise parents that some scenes may be too much for young children, so recommend the show for ages 12 and up. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
