Weston’s aggressive two-year road improvement program gets underway this week, starting on seven roads in the northern part of town.

Set to begin on Thursday, the following roads will be milled and paved this week and next:

• Old Farm Road
• Osborne Farm Road
• Spruce Hill Road
• Kramer Lane
• Samuelson Road
• Whippoorwill Lane
• Grey Fox Lane

Voters at a Special Town Meeting on July 9 approved issuing up to $6 million in bond anticipation notes over two years to bring 37 distressed roads up to acceptable standards. The first tranche of notes was sold nine days later, providing $3.6 million for this year’s road work. Bids were received and contracts awarded by mid August.

Other 2024 roads

11 more roads remain on the 2024 paving list:

• Valley Forge Road (from Davis Hill Road to Newtown Turnpike)
• Old Hyde Road (from Lords Highway to the portion that is a dirt road)
• River Road (from Weston Road to Good Hill Road)
• Good Hill Road (from Weston Road to Steep Hill Road)
• Fanton Hill Road (Lyons Plain to Old Easton Tpk.)
• Birch Hill Road (from no. 110 to Godfrey Road East)
• Davis Hill Road (Steep Hill Road to Colony Road)
• Weddington Lane
• School Road (straightaway near the WIS entrance)
• Pilgrim Lane
• Grays Farm Road

In addition, the Connecticut Department of Transportation appears set to begin major reconstruction of the full length of Lyons Plain Road in October. Not happening this year: construction of a turning lane and installation of new signaling at the Route 57 entrance to School Road. A final design is yet to be approved by state agencies, so this project pushes into 2025.
