Weston’s aggressive two-year road improvement program gets underway this week, starting on seven roads in the northern part of town.
Set to begin on Thursday, the following roads will be milled and paved this week and next:
Voters at a Special Town Meeting on July 9 approved issuing up to $6 million in bond anticipation notes over two years to bring 37 distressed roads up to acceptable standards. The first tranche of notes was sold nine days later, providing $3.6 million for this year’s road work. Bids were received and contracts awarded by mid August.

In addition, the Connecticut Department of Transportation appears set to begin major reconstruction of the full length of Lyons Plain Road in October. Not happening this year: construction of a turning lane and installation of new signaling at the Route 57 entrance to School Road. A final design is yet to be approved by state agencies, so this project pushes into 2025.
