On Thursday evening, the Board of Selectmen appointed Lisa Luft, a 30-year Weston resident, to fill a vacancy on the Board of Education, following the resignation last month of Bernadette Kingsley.
In her interview with the selectmen, Ms. Luft discussed her 32-year career in education, which included positions as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and administrator in the New York City school system.
She said that much of her latter experience was “in a turnaround role,” addressing issues in schools ranging in student population from 250 to 3,500 “with the most serious problems.”
In Weston, she said, “the schools are the most important asset we have, and we have to make sure each child gets what they need.”
Ms. Luft’s academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Albany, an MBA from Adelphi University, a Master of Science, Reading from Southern Connecticut State University, and the Executive Leadership Program of the University of Connecticut.
She holds a Connecticut superintendent certification and several state certifications, both in Connecticut and New York, for administration and business and reading education.
