Weston Today photos
Dedicated with a release of newly hatched butterflies, a new attraction for children and parents opened at Lachat Town Farm on Sunday, “Seth’s Wilderness Playground.”
The playground, donated by longtime Weston residents Philip and Suzan Gaynes, honors the memory of their son, Seth, who passed away years ago at the age of 14. Friends of Lachat President Carol Baldwin said Seth’s first spoken word had been “butterfly.”
Dr. and Ms. Gaynes, who have lived in Weston for 58 years, were joined at the dedication by their son David, his wife Jill, and two grandchildren.
“We love Weston and everything in it,” said Ms. Gaynes. “This is for the whole community, but especially for the people who remain in town after their children leave home, the ones who stay and enrich the community.”
Ms. Baldwin said the playground, designed and built by Lachat volunteer David Guglielmo, is “a wonderful new asset for the farm,” constructed almost entirely with repurposed lumber.
“It’s different from typical playgrounds,” she said. “This is more in the woods. Kids need a parent to be with them, but this is meant to be an adventure in nature.”
